Honolulu Fire Department officials say that three people were killed in a fiery helicopter crash in a suburban Honolulu community of Kailua.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said a Robinson R44 helicopter crashed around 9 a.m. in the middle of the Coconut Grove neighborhood in Kailua, and it is believed that there were three people on board of aircraft.

He said the circumstances of the crash were unknown.

No further details were available on those killed.

According to reports, the helicopter was operated by Novictor Helicopters (Novictor Oahu Helicopter Tours) and its tail number was N808NV.

The crash occurred in Kailua, a town of 50,000 people about a 30-minute drive from downtown Honolulu.

Former President Barack Obama stayed at a rented beachfront vacation home Kailua during the winter holidays when he was in the White House.

In recent years Kailua become a popular destination for tourists to go to the beach, hike and shop.
